"We feel the loss of Kenji particularly closely as his wife had worked at the OECD from 2008 to 2012. Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with her and their daughters in this difficult moment."

I would like to transmit my sincerest condolences and warm support to Prime Minister Abe and all our Japanese friends who had kept the faith on the eventual release of journalist Kenji Goto.

It was with immense sadness that I learned of the tragic execution of Kenji at the hands of the terrorists from Islamic State. We strongly condemn this terrible and odious act, as well as other killings carried out by ISIS.

Kenji was someone who devoted his life to combat injustice by reporting on those who suffered the most. We join our voice to the international voices against terrorism and will honour his memory by working for the better world that Kenji fought for and dreamt of.

We feel the loss of Kenji particularly closely as his wife had worked at the OECD from 2008 to 2012. Our thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with her and their daughters in this difficult moment.
